The sugar glider is a small nocturnal marsupial from New Zealand, Australia, Tasmania, Papua-New Guinea and Indonesia. Its name is derived from its feeding preference on sweet foods and wild nectars.
Cage: Minimum 20" wide x 20" deep x 30" high; preferably larger. Galvanized steel wire, spaced no wider than 1" Secure doors with latches to prevent escape
Equipment: Water bottle and hanger
Stainless steel or heavy ceramic food dish placed high in the cage
Wood, plastic and/or rope perches
Cage toys to stimulate activity
Exercise wheel or ball
Bedding: Nest box or cloth sleeping pouch. (Cloth pouches are easy to clean & much more sanitary)
Nesting material is optional. NEVER use newspaper or magazines Do not use fabrics that can fray and cause tangling (may result in amputation)
Feeding: Fresh food and water should always be available
High quality sugar glider pellets and/or monkey chow.
Fresh fruits and vegetables each day.
Clean, fresh, de-chlorinated, filtered water changed daily.
Protein sources should not exceed 10% of total food intake.
Nectar and sugar treats may also be offered on occasion
