| Glider Connection is a family owned and operated business devoted to supplying sugar glider owners with the supplies and resources necessary to permit their pets to thrive. We started this business back in 1999 when we rescued a sugar glider from a neglective pet shop owner and quickly learned that there were not a lot of resources available to us as sugar glider owners. National pet store chains did not carry sugar glider supplies and local pet shops had never even heard of sugar gliders.
Back then we had no idea how the difficulties to buy supplies for our new pet would ultimately create opportunities to help thousands of other sugar glider owners. But our first purchase eventually served as a catalyst to launch Glider Connection.
Our new adopted pet came to our home in a cardboard shoebox with literally nothing. No sleeping compartment and no food and no toys. The pet shop did not even have an instruction sheet for how to feed and care for the little critter. So when we got home we started searchng the internet for information.
One of the first things we did was to purchase a couple of nesting pouches from an online ebay seller. When we received the pouches we were very disappointed with our purchase. We had paid the ebay seller $16 plus shipping for two pouches. What we received was basically two thin pieces of fabric folded in half with a single seam up the side and across the bottom to make a pocket. There were a couple of flimsy S-hooks to hang from the cage. But the S-hooks kept falling off every time the sugar glider entered or exited the pouch.
We felt ripped off! Our sugar glider was not happy and neither were we. So we decided to fight back. Instead of settling on these substandard products we decided to design our own nesting pouches. So we pulled our sewing machine out of the closet and we began fiddling around with a unique pouch design of our own that would reflect a distinct understanding of this special animal and its unique needs. We focused on creating a product that would reflect a real love for the sugar glider by providing it with a safe and snuggly place to rest.
After several prototypes and multiple patterns the Peek-a-boo nesting pouch was born! We tried it out on our sugar glider and she loved it! We made several more for her. Shortly afterward we offered one of our pouches on ebay as a way to compete with the seller who had sold us those lousy pouches. We wanted other sugar glider owners to know that they now had a choice in sugar glider products.
Our new Peek-a-boo pouch sold like hotcakes! Within a month we started taking special orders from customers all around the world who wanted Peek-a-boo pouches for their sugar gliders too! Word spread quickly and before long we were making pouches on a fulltime basis and ultimately developed the Glider Connection store.
Over the years we have added more sugar gliders to our home. Each new sugar glider has had its own unique personality that has inspired us to create new products to meet its needs. |
